About Your Library
You can use the library's search catalog (InfoCentre) to find whatever kind of book your looking for. Books in the library are grouped into seven main areas: young adult (teen) (YA), fiction (F), non-fiction (NF), everybody (E), biographies (B), reference (R), and graphic novels (GN).
NF - Non-FictionNon-fiction books are about real places, things and people. They are found on the shelves in the middle of the library shown in orange on the map. When you look up a non-fiction book in the book catalog, it will tell you the call number and three letters. The call number represents a subject, such as bugs, dogs, science, history, jokes, etc. in the Dewey Decimal System. The letters are the first three letters of the author's last name.
To make it even easier to find books, below is a list of some of our most popular subjects and where they can be found on the shelves without using the Dewey call number. |
As seen on the map above there are four rows of books in the non-fiction area. Row 1 (R1) is closest to the Everyone section. Next are rows 2 (R2) and 3 (R3). The last row (facing the Fiction section) is called row ‘F’ (RF). As you walk into each row from the end closest to the middle pole, there are books on both the Right (R) and Left (L) side. Row ‘F’ only has one side. Each row has six sets of shelves called ‘stacks’. The stacks closest to the pole are number 1 (L-S1 & R-S1). The stacks closest to the windows are number 6 (L-S6 & R-S6). Each stack has a Top, Middle and Bottom shelf. So for example, a book located at “R2, L-S1, Middle” would be in Row 2 on the left side in stack 1 on the middle shelf.
