The first two weeks of May all students may only have ONE book out at a time, unless you are currently working on a book report, in which case you may have one additional book for casual reading.
Q: How long can I keep my books?
A: Books are due two weeks after you check them out.
Q: What books do I have out?
Q: When are my books due?
A: You can see what books you have checked out and when they are due by clicking HERE. Enter your six-digit student ID (lunch number), your last name and click Login. The due date of each book is on the left. If it is RED, your book is overdue. You can even print this page -- just click the Print button.
Q: I lost my book. What do I do now?
A: Don't PANIC!! Usually books tend to turn up the next time you clean your room, clean out your backpack, desk at school, etc. First of all, tell your parents. They can help you find the book, or at least be aware that your looking for a book. Then if they find a book under your bed or in the back of your closet, they know why and where it needs to go. Secondly, tell the library clerk. In most cases, she will work something out with your parents so that you can still check out your two books each week. Again, chances are the book will turn up before the end of the year.
Q: I received an overdue book notice from my teacher or in the mail, but I'm sure I checked in my book. What do I do?
A: Overdue book notices are distributed to teachers about once a month and notices are mailed home three to four times a year - once in December, again in February and then again in April and/or May. Be aware that, because of processing time, it is possible that the notice was printed before your book was turned in. If you are SURE that you have turned in your book, there are two things you can do. First, use the catalog search site HERE and see if you can find your book. Enter the title of the book and after you find it click the Show Copies link, find the Copy ID of the book listed on your notice to see if it is shown as checked in or out in the system. If your copy is shown as Out then the book has not been checked in yet. Secondly, from time to time a book may find its way back to the shelf without being checked back in. Please feel free to come to the library and see if you can find the copy of the book listed on the notice. Remember you have to find the specific Copy ID listed on the notice, which can be found on the Highland Lakes Library barcode sticker on the back of the book. If you do find the book, please bring it up to to the counter to get it checked into the system and clear your account.
Q: I have some books I would like to donate. How can I do that?
A: Thank you. We are always happy to welcome new additions to the library. Parents, please stop and sign in at the office before coming to the library to drop off any gently used books you would like to donate. Any books that we do not use for whatever reason will be distributed to other school libraries in the district.
